How to use a rotary washing line?

Rotary washing line drying clothes.

A rotary washing line is a cost-effective and efficient way to dry your wet washing. The now popular rotary washing line works by drying clothes using a combination of the sun and wind. Drying your washing using these natural elements have many benefits including prolonging the life of your clothes. This is due to the material in clothes being dried at a steadier pace with the sun acting as a natural sanitising agent.

In addition, using the weather to dry your clothes is completely cost-free which is a major benefit in comparison to using a tumble dryer that uses large amounts of electricity which becomes expensive.

Everything you need to know before you use a rotary washing line?

Before you can get started there are a couple of things that you should know about rotary washing lines. There are a range of different devices available on the market which makes it difficult sometimes to know which is the right one to choose. Luckily for you at Washing-Line we have made it easier to decide with our best rotary washing line guide

The first thing that it is important to know before using a rotary washing line is the general functions of your specific device you have. All designs are similar; however, we advise you to read the information included in the manual when you first receive your rotary washing line. This manual should also include instructions on how to install your rotary washing line.

There are also a couple of things you should consider ensuring that your rotary washing line is safe and does not cause harm to yourself or anyone in its vicinity. Proper installation is a must to ensure that the rotary washing line has a solid base allowing the spike or pole to stay perfectly vertical and not lean or fall over. If your rotary clothes pole is leaning or moving due to the wind, then it is best to remove your washing line and lay it flat until you can re-install in properly.

In extreme weather, rotary washing poles can become damaged even if they are installed correctly. To minimise the risk of damage it is best to fold up your rotary washing line whenever it is not being used. This provides more protection against the elements as well as taking up less space. If your rotary washing line is damaged, make sure that you repair it before you use it next.

Finally, a rotary washing line should be used for the sole purpose of hanging wet washing in order to dry it. To ensure the life of your rotary washing line please refrain from hanging other things from it as this may cause damage. It is important as well to advise children not to swing from a rotary clothes line if they are playing in the surrounding area as this can cause harm to themselves as well as damage the device.

Is it easy to use a rotary washing line?

As we previously mentioned most rotary washing lines are similar in their functions and how they work. Again, it is important to read the manual information provided by the manufacturer when you purchase your rotary washing line to best understand your specific model. There are several different styles and designs of devices to consider such as twist and lock mechanism rotary washing line.

To understand how to best use a rotary washing line you must first understand the basics of how they work. The rotary washing line is so effective at drying clothes due to their design of a solid pole for structure with a rotating head element which spins with the wind. The rotating section of these type of clothes lines is the real key element in drying allowing more air to flow through the clothes.

Typically, rotary clothes lines have between three and five washing lines that reach around the arms between the arms of the spinning element. To dry clothes in the most efficient way, wet washing should be systematically hung. Placing clothes on the line in this strategic manner ensures that they get the maximum amount of exposure to the sun as well as the amount of air able to flow through the wet washing. Incorrectly hanging clothes on the line can lead to washing taking extended periods of time to dry or even worse not drying at all.

How to get the best results out of your rotary washing line?

If used to its full ability a rotary washing line can evenly dry your wet washing in as little as 1-2 hours. To get the best results you should start by hanging washing from the inside washing line and then proceed to fill the washing lines outwards. Items of wet washing should be hung out in order or size too. The smallest and lightest items of wet clothing should be placed on the interior lines with larger and heavier garments placed on the exterior washing lines. If you are hanging thick or bulky items then you should place them over more than just a single line to maximise the amount of air flowing through.

Some rotary washing lines have an extendable pole which can be adjusted. This can help speed up the drying process as the spinning section of the rotary clothes line is more exposed to the elements and thus spins more easily.

Another function of some rotary washing line designs is a breeze or wind brake that reduces the speed in which the top of the device rotates. This is an important feature to help control the speed of the turning section, especially in extreme weather conditions. You can disengage this wind brake to increase the speed at which the rotary washing line spins. However, this should be done with caution in order to keep the rotary washing line under control, prevent washing from falling off the line and reduce the risk of the device getting damaged unnecessarily.

Why is a wind brake important on rotary washing lines?

The wind brake can be tightened to prevent the rotary washing line from spinning as well as loosened to allow more rotation of the line. Fully applying the wind brake is especially useful on windy days to stop the rotation whilst you are pegging or un-pegging wet washing from the line. On most rotary washing lines, the wind brake is fully engaged through winding down the head of the hoist.

The wind brake can also be adjusted depending on the type of clothing you are drying. If you are drying large or bulky items of wet washing, then releasing the break will allow for the rotary head to spin more freely. This can lead to faster and more efficient drying of clothing as there is an increased amount of air flowing through.
